A beloved member of the Foothills family and a well-respected coach in the Calgary soccer community, Coach Noel Smith, has passed away. Publication of the heartbreaking news took place on Friday, October 31, 2025.
On Friday October 31, he was involved in a catastrophic accident in Highfield and died in a hospital from his injuries.
The Chinooks Soccer Club held him in high regard for his commitment to developing young players and cultivating a passion for the game.
He was lovingly referred to as Coach Noel. He worked with the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club from 2020 to 2022 as a team coach and academy coach. His love, commitment, and concern for each player he worked with had a profound effect.
Noel dedicated his life to promoting the game and motivating players for almost twenty years. Clubs and families all around Calgary were impacted by his love of soccer and dedication to youth development.
He was more than just a coach because of his capacity to uplift, instruct, and connect; to countless people, he served as a friend, mentor, and role model.
In order to ensure that Noel's spirit and priceless contributions to soccer are never forgotten, the community encourages everyone to share their memories of him as his legacy endures through the lives he touched.
