On Sunday, October 26, 2025, family members announced that Nick Mangold had passed away from renal failure. Unfortunately, he ran out of time while he was on an organ donor list. He was only forty-one.
Nick was revered both on and off the field and is considered a legend in the New York Jets' history. The announcement follows the seven-time NFL Pro Bowler's announcement two weeks ago that he was seeking a kidney donor and receiving dialysis.
Mangold discovered he had chronic kidney illness in 2006, but he didn't disclose it to anyone until last month.
“I don’t think anybody knew about it other than the doctors and my family,’’ Mangold said. “I didn’t want any cloud hanging over anything that I did.”
However, that changed when Mangold's health deteriorated recently, necessitating three weekly dialysis sessions.
He admitted that it was frightening to hear that he would require a kidney transplant.
Many people who had that wonderful time with him have been deeply affected by his passing. He leaves behind four kids and his wife, Jennifer.
Remember them in your prayers and thoughts.
