Sad news: on Thursday morning, October 30, 2025, a talented young English flat jockey was discovered dead at his family's home close to Newmarket. Later, the dead was identified as Tommie Jakes, a 19-year-old apprentice jockey.

There have been reports that he may have committed suic*de, although the public is currently unaware of this. As of yet, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
The final race was just a few hours prior to this occurrence. His departure is keenly felt by his family and friends.
Tommie was a gifted young rider who had the world at his feet. In the past few months, trainers had praised him greatly for his attitude and horsemanship.
He partnered his last victory at Catterick on October 18th riding Fouroneohfever, trained by George Boughey, for whom he was apprentice, and rode 59 winners from 519 career rides over the last three years, including 19 in 2025.
In addition to welcoming and encouraging calls from anyone impacted by Tommie's passing, the BHA and the sport's support services will offer care and support to those who were close to him.
Marks of respect will be held at the racetracks on Friday and at Chelmsford and Southwell on Thursday night.
At this awful moment, his parents, Jeremy and Tommie, want that their privacy be respected.
