In remembrance of Ben Austin, the 17-year-old who passed away during practice, several people are placing their cricket bats on their doorstep. His death has shocked his friends, family, and the cricket community in Australia.
In an incident that resembles the death of Australian player Phil Hughes, Ben was hit in the neck by a ball during a practice session on Tuesday, October 28. He was a brilliant light, according to his parents.
Cricket Australia only strongly recommends helmets and neck protection, and senior players are currently exempt from restrictions.
Ben was chasing his aspirations until his trip came to an abrupt stop at a time when his life was just getting started. Nobody had expected such depressing news.
To help the Austin family, the Waverley Park Hawks JFC and the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club have organised a fundraiser.
