The 21-year-old Silas McCay nearly died while attempting to save the life of 18-year-old Kimber Mills. He reportedly tried to protect Kimber Mills during a bonfire shooting in Alabama and was shot ten times.

On Sunday, October 18, 2025, at around 12:30 a.m., dozens of teenagers were having a campfire gathering at a place called "The Pit" when the shooting occurred.

When he discovered that the suspect was reportedly pestering Mills, the altercation started.

McCay lived despite being hit ten times, including twice in the stomach, three times in the leg, once in the hip, once in the rib cage, and once in each of his finger, pelvis, and inner thigh. Unfortunately, Kimber didn't.

Even though McCay's injuries are severe, medical professionals anticipate that he will fully recover. As early as Friday, October 24, 2025, he might be discharged.

"McCay refers to Kimber as his "little sister." He is pleading with people to preserve her memory despite his own suffering. and to offer condolences to every family affected by this utterly terrible catastrophe."

According to McCay, he treated Kimber like a younger sister. He made all effort he could. With reference to Kimber Mills, McCay stated, "I wish there was more I could have done."

He claimed to have known Mills for a number of years and to have frequently spent weekends with a close circle of friends. "It was the first time their gatherings had ever turned violent," he said of the party where the shooting took place.

Police are still looking for more specific information as they continue their investigation. Do not hesitate to call 911 or the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department if you have additional information.

Please remember and pray for the Cleveland family.
