Witnesses were in the back seat of Webber's Tesla SUV when the event occurred, according to a preliminary inquiry. After stopping, he asked the two witnesses in the backseat to assist in removing Wells from the vehicle. They got out of the car and called the police after refusing.

They claimed that Wells' body was still in the car when Webber drove off.
