On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, legendary DJ Lord Sear, a true original and one of the great voices in hip-hop, passed away at the age of 53. His fans and family were devastated.
He was a mainstay of Shade 45 on SiriusXM, where he co-hosted The All Out Show and most recently hosted The Lord Sear Special.
For many years, Lord Sear was a well-known hip-hop DJ who represented the genre both on the radio and in the underground scene. He was involved in New York's 1990s scene, including the influential The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show and tight ties to the Wu-Tang Clan circle, prior to being a long-time host on Shade 45, the hip-hop station founded by Eminem.
Before joining the renowned Stretch and Bobbito Show, travelling the world on Eminem's Anger Management Tour, and serving as a pillar of the Shade 45 family for more than 20 years, he initially gained recognition as a member of the hip-hop trio Kurious. At every level, he contributed to the culture's development.
Additionally, he made an appearance on MF DOOM's Vaudeville Villain, contributing to the "Open Mic Nite" tracks and lending his voice to an underground hip-hop cult favourite.
His mixes of rare remixes, hip-hop B-sides, and classic R&B were consistently excellent, providing listeners with a soundscape that was unique to him. Lord Sear was more than just a radio host.
He served as a mentor and curator for both fans and artists. He always kept things authentic while preserving hip-hop's past and illuminating the future generation.
The songs and memories he left behind will carry on his legacy and voice.
In remembrance of him, listen to Sirius XM Shade 45 tomorrow from 12 to 4 p.m.ET/9 a.m. to 1 p.m.PT. During his time slot, friends will gather to celebrate his amazing life and exchange memories.
