After being missing for more than five years since June 2, 2020, 11-year-old LA girl Karen Rojas was discovered this week over 2,700 miles away, according to officials. According to early reports, she was abducted at the age of five from her home in Duarte, California.
Karen Rojas was discovered in North Carolina on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. She attended school under a false identity. Protective custody has been placed on her.
Because of her age and the delicate nature of the case, officials say they are not disclosing the alias she used at school.
The recovery was a rare success in a long-term missing kid case, according to the sheriff's office, which emphasized that agency cooperation and perseverance made the discovery possible.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, they were acting on information provided to them by the DCFS and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) published a new age progression of a long-term missing child barely three months before to Karen's arrival.
