The loss of 19-year-old Eva Moran, a freshman pole vaulter on the women's track and field team and a health sciences student, has devastated her family, friends, classmates, and mentors.
On May 29, 2026, at around 5:28 PM, Eva was killed in a three-vehicle fatal collision on State Route 309 close to milepost 21 in Claridon Township, Marion County.
Eva J. Moran of Caledonia was driving a black 2012 Hyundai Elantra; Nathaniel R. Blankenship, 19, of Marion, was driving a white 2013 GMC Acadia; and Dalila Zamudio, 23, of Galion, was driving a black 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
After being ejected from her car, Ms. Moran was taken by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital, where she was eventually declared dead.
Mr. Blankenship was treated on the spot after possibly suffering injuries. Ms. Zamudio was taken to Marion General Hospital by a private party after suffering minor injuries.
The First Consolidated Fire Department, Marion Township EMS, Fort Morrow EMS, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, B&B Towing, Precision Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation all provided on-site assistance to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The cause of the fatal collision is currently being looked into by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers from the Marion Post.
