Nicola "Nic" Tarzia, a longtime Stamford resident and former BOE member, has passed away. Born on March 15, 1963, he passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 63.
Nic loved everyone who knew him and was a friend to many. He liked to make other people smile, and he was always smiling.
He established the Tarzia Group, a small corporation in Stamford that personified the American ideal.
Nic was an ardent supporter of Stamford's public school students, families, and teachers as a co-founder of the Stamford Public Education Foundation and a longtime member of the Stamford Board of Education.
In addition to his work promoting public education, Nic dedicated himself to community service through a number of local organizations and programs that helped Stamford kids and their families, such as Toys for Tots and Dollars for Scholars.
His involvement with SPEF, the Tarzia Foundation, Dollars for Scholars, the Board of Education, and, most recently, his mayoral campaign demonstrated his love of the community and public service.
Nicola Tarzia's efforts to civic involvement and local education will live on as a legacy of compassion and understanding. For many years to come, the community will be affected by his influence.
BOE President Andy George and SPS Superintendent Tamu Lucero sent their sincere sympathies to Nic's family, friends, coworkers, and everyone who knew him on behalf of the Stamford Board of Education and Stamford Public Schools.
