Student injured at Thomas S. Wootton High School Shooting


On Monday, February 9, 2026, at approximately 3:25 p.m., law enforcement confirmed that a shooting occurred at Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. The condition of the student who was shot is yet unknown.

According to an EMS consult, he had critical but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Rockville City Police, someone is being held in relation to the incident. The Montgomery County Police have seized the suspect's vehicle. He was arrested in Rockville, Maryland, at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Great Falls Road.

On the scene, the Rockville City Police Department is gathering all possible evidence.

The public's safety is no longer in danger, as certified at 4:13 p.m. by authorities.



It is anticipated that students will soon be released from the school. Every student that takes the bus will return home by their usual routes. Bus riders' parents are urged not to visit the school.

Robert Frost Middle School, located at 9201 Scott Drive, is the meeting place for non-bus passengers.

At 6 p.m., a media briefing will take place near the intersection of Wootton Parkway and Hurley Avenue.

A number of local roads are closed. Students are still being picked up from Robert Frost Middle School.
