The death of American gospel artist Ron Kenoly, who was 81 years old, was confirmed on Tuesday, February 3. Preliminary reports state that the renowned pastor, worship leader, and gospel minister passed away from natural causes.
Bruno Miranda, Kenoly's music director, made the announcement in a message posted on the singer's Instagram page. The worship leader passed away on February 3, 2026, according to the statement.
Worship leaders, gospel musicians, and Christian communities worldwide have responded to the news of his passing with an astounding number of tributes, honoring his enduring influence on gospel music and worship.
A key player in the worldwide praise and worship movement was Dr. Ron Kenoly. His ministry, which was characterized by a goal "to create an environment for the manifest presence of God," had an impact on millions of people through recordings of joyful, exuberant worship.
Kenoly was one of six kids raised mostly by his mother, Edith, and was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, on December 6, 1944. He relocated to Hollywood to pursue a career in music after high school. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1965 and spent three years there. He played on military bases with The Mellow Fellows, a Top 40 cover band, during this period.
After serving in the military, Kenoly pursued a career in secular music. He signed with A&M Records under the name Ron Keith and then Inner City, where his song "Lovely Weekend" from 1972 sold close to 200,000 copies. But in the end, he discovered that he was straying from his religion. Following his mother's and wife's prayers, he rededicated his life to Christ after ten years in the business.
Samuel, Ronald, and Tony were his three sons from his 42-year marriage to his first wife, Tavita. In 2014, he wed UN Ambassador Diana after her death. He was famously related to American actor Don Cheadle.
He is regarded as a "Psalmist of the Century" because of the way his writing connected the gospel with modern congregational worship.
