On Monday, November 3, 2025, the Warrick County Sheriff's Office officially announced that the remains of Zachary Carey, 38, who had been missing from Evansville since 2023, had been found.
After being taken to the Vanderburgh County morgue for DNA testing, the remains were conclusively identified as Zachary Carey.
His remains were discovered in the Lynnville neighborhood, where he was last seen.
On Friday, October 31, while on a scouting trip in the Lynnville region, a hunter came across what he thought were the bones of a deceased person. He alerted the authorities right away.
Additional searches were carried out in the region on Sunday by the Warrick County Sheriff's Office, the Warrick County Coroner's Office, and a cadaver squad from the Department of Homeland Security. No other human remains were found, though.
The Warrick County Sheriff's Office and the Warrick County Coroner's Office have worked together to investigate Zachary Carey's disappearance.
The Warrick County Sheriff's Office does not currently believe that foul play was involved in his death.
Once verified, any new information will be provided.
