Zemfira Mukhtarov and Ebba Morina Subway Surfing Death

Nearly a week after Zemfira Mukhtarov, 12, and Ebba Morina, 13, were slain while reportedly subway surfing in Williamsburg, their family and friends are recalling them as happy, inquisitive, and lively.

Climbing on top of train cars and riding them quickly while they move through the city is known as subway surfing.

Brooklyn native Zemfira Mukhtarov and Manhattan resident Ebba Morina were found dead on top of a J train in Brooklyn on October 4. Unaware of the disaster that would befall them, Zemfira had met Ebba online and sneaked out of her Bay Ridge house to go subway surfing.

Around 3:10 a.m., after the subway had crossed the Williamsburg Bridge and arrived at Marcy Avenue station, they were both discovered on the final train car.

As they get through this difficult period of losing a child, remember their families and friends.

"Nataliya Rudenko, Zemfira's mother, told FOX5 that she was making breakfast and watching the news when her 11 year old daughter saw Zemfira's skateboard and purse on the television."

She also said, "She was supposed to be asleep in her room. Now we're planning her funeral."

According to data from the New York Police Department, between January 2023 and April 2025, over 415 persons were detained for using the subway.

Six people lost their lives while following the viral craze last year. They were all in the 11–15 age range.

More information will be released once officials

 have verified it.
