On Monday morning, October 13, 2025, his colleagues announced the death of Doug Lebda, the longtime business executive, father of three, and CEO of Charlotte-based LendingTree.
He was 55 years old. Lebda reportedly lost his life in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on Sunday, October 12, 2025. Everyone who learned of the news was greatly shocked. The financial IT community he helped create was rocked by it.
Lebda was riding with companions on a leisure excursion when the terrible collision happened, according to authorities.
Since its founding by Lebda in 1996, LendingTree has developed into one of Charlotte's most well-known domestic finance firms.
He was a well-known local business leader who appeared on financial TV shows and in national media. He donated $500,000 to Atrium Health in 2024 to help fund healthcare in remote areas.
He was born in Pennsylvania and attended Bucknell University before graduating from the University of Virginia with an MBA. He was LendingTree's visionary founder, guiding the business for decades and radically altering the way that customers look for financial products.
