The shooting between 26-year-old Elijah Wilks and an unidentified Milwaukee police officer was plainly visible on the dash camera footage made public by the Milwaukee Police Department on Monday, October 13, 2025, and it sparked a debate among the public about who was at fault.
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Elijah Wilks was shot and killed by an off-duty Milwaukee police officer near 49th and Mill Road.
The incident occurred as a result of an altercation between Elijah and the Milwaukee police officer who was not on duty.
"The shooting death of Wilks was considered justified by police investigators and his family after reviewing the dash camera video," according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
"That guy came out of the car already knowing what he was doing. Fortunately, for society it was a police officer off-duty because that guy probably would have stolen the car, beat the other driver or maybe even killed another driver. On another note, the guy didn't even have to cut-off the police officer since it appears no cars were really behind them. He forced his way in front and than had a road rage about it." Scott Schew said on Facebook.
Investigation is ongoing to give a clear judgement to the public.
