Charles Riley, Iberville Parish Sheriff Dies in Shooting

Charles W. Riley, a Louisiana Deputy Sheriff, was the police officer that was shot in Iberville last night. Officials said he was shot at the Iberville Parish Courthouse while questioning a suspect.


He died on Monday, October 6, 2025, born on January 3, 1992. He was 33-years-old.

Another deputy was hurt and is still in critical condition at the hospital. The suspect has was shot and he died at the scene.


After serving with pride in the US Navy, Charles spent a few years as a reserve Gonzales police officer before being employed on a full-time basis by the Iberville Sheriff's Office.


He was referred to by a resident of the East Iberville neighborhood where he worked as "a pillar of kindness and patience." Real people adored him, and he was real.

During this trying time, please remember to pray for his two daughters, his mother Libby, his father Dean, his brothers Steven and Brian, sister Rebecca, and all of his family and friends.


You should also pray for the Gonzales Police Department and the Iberville Sheriff's Office. As they go through this difficult time, remember them in your prayers and thoughts.
