Since Dana McKinney, a 68-year-old Davis Junction resident, was discovered dead, the missing person alert for her has been canceled.
The Ogle County Sheriff's Office stated on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, that Dana was discovered dead in a body of water approximately a mile from her home at 2:30 p.m.
She was last seen in the 15000 block of E. Oak Tree Drive at one in the morning on Wednesday, according to Illinois State Police. McKinney may have been confused or disoriented at the time of her disappearance due to dementia, according to deputies.
The search was aided by about 75 search and rescue teams from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Drones, ground search teams, and K9 teams were among the resources.
The search turned up something no one had expected. Her family members are appreciative of everyone who helped in any manner.
Once Dana's cause of death has been confirmed, the Ogle County Sheriff's Office will provide more information.
