Ryder Harrington, a 19-year-old Texas Tech student and part of the Fall 2024 Pledge Class, was badly shot along with two other people on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Sadly, Ryder died in a local hospital from his wounds.
The other two fatalities of the Sixth Street bar mass shooting were identified by the Austin police as Jorge Pederson, 30, and Savitha Shan, 21.
Authorities claim that the attacker started shooting outside Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, a popular bar location with lots of foot traffic at night. After the initial 911 call, police arrived within a minute, which officials claim helped prevent more deaths.

Ndiaga Diagne, 53, was recognized as the culprit; he was shot by police and died at the spot.

Ryder Harrington was the epitome of friendliness at the age of 19; he was upbeat, kind, and charming to everyone he encountered. It was impossible to ignore the light he carried.
It is an unfathomable sadness that he was snatched from his family in such a heinous act of violence.
The investigation into the mass shooting is still complicated, according to Austin police, as they look for a motive and are ready to make more information public later this week.
