Elder Tad R. Callister, a former Sunday School general president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an emeritus General Authority Seventy, has died. He passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 79, according to his family.
The public was told, with little detail, that he died after a complication from Lou Gehrig's disease, often known as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
Throughout his life, Elder Callister, a former attorney, defended the tenets of the US Constitution. He devoted his time and energy to defending his belief in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Elder Callister also attempted to defend the US Constitution and its tenets by drawing on his legal experience.
He was well-known for his strong religious convictions and commitment to preaching and upholding the restored gospel of Jesus Christ during his time in the church.
His understanding of the gospel and his love for Christ were evident in every conversation he had. His strong defense of the Book of Mormon and the restored Church with conviction, clarity, and profound spiritual insight won him great admiration.
His love for the Savior is clear in every speech he delivers, and his teachings help individuals grow in their faith. He simplifies difficult topics by teaching with both intellect and the Spirit.
At this time all who had the opportunity to spend time with him, are grieving the unimaginable loss.
Remember the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his family.
