The incident began when the victim opened the door for the suspect and the suspect did not thank her, according to a witness in the arrest affidavit for the Tuesday shooting outside a PetSmart store in Dallas.
After the argument turned into a physical altercation in the parking lot, Cecilia Simpson, 41, was shot several times.
On Tuesday, October 7, the dispute began at Five Below and then moved to PetSmart, which is located in the same South Oak Cliff shopping mall off of Wheatland Road.
Keona Hampton, 22, is accused by investigators of following Simpson and her kid into the PetSmart. They were asked to leave by the staff.
Even after the mother and daughter attempted to defuse the situation by getting into their car, Keona persisted in starting a fight.
Hampton then admitted to authorities that she had participated in the verbal altercation, went into the PetSmart twice to continue the debate, threw the drink bottle at Simpson's car as she was ready to leave, and got into a physical altercation with her, according to the affidavit. Police claim that Hampton then drew a gun and fired three shots at Simpson.
Keona has been taken into custody by police and is being held at the Dallas County Jail; no bond has been set as of yet.
The investigation is still in progress, and additional information will be made public as soon as authorities have verified it.
